Can it really be true? Is Team Beachbody a scam? Let’s take a look into Team Beachbody and sort this mess out. But first, let’s make sure we’re all on the same page and make sure that we all understand the difference between an illegal pyramid scheme and a multi-level marketing business opportunity.
Pyramid Scheme vs Multi-Level Marketing
Pyramid Scheme – A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves promising participants payment, services or ideals, primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme or training them to take part, rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public. Pyramid schemes are a form of fraud.
Multi- Level Marketing – A marketing strategy in which the salesforce is compensated not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of others they recruit, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation.
Now that we we’re clear on that, let’s see how Team Beachbody sizes up.
Is Team Beachbody A Pyramid Scheme?
Based on the above definition I would have to say absolutely not for a couple of reasons. But let’s break down the definition in detail.
“Pyramid schemes promise payment primarily for enrolling other people rather than supplying any real investment or sale of products or services to the public.”
On this statement I would say that Team Beachbody gets a passing grade. As coaches, we do not receive any compensation for recruiting other coaches. We get paid when products are purchased. No sale, no commission. It’s that simple.
Is Team Beachbody A Multi-Level Marketing Company?
“Multi-Level Marketing is a marketing strategy in which the sales force is compensated not only for sales they personally generate, but also for the sales of others they recruit, creating a downline of distributors and a hierarchy of multiple levels of compensation.”
Based on this definition I would have to agree that Team Beachbody is a multi-level marketing company.
Is Multi-Level Marketing That Bad?
How is this different from other business models that pay someone for the efforts of others? How about the real estate broker/agent relationship? That’s multi-level. How about and insurance agency/agent relationship? How about McDonald’s or Pepsi? Come to think of it, how is multi-level marketing different from any business model? In every business you have a boss, CEO, stock holders, etc that get paid for the efforts of those below them (their “downline”).
There’s One BIG Difference
When comparing multi-level/ network marketing companies and “traditional” businesses there are a number of differences. With a traditional business you need capital, and lots of it. If you’re working for a major corporation the odds are pretty good that you will NEVER get the opportunity to be the CEO. You’re literally stuck building someone else’s company.
With Team Beachbody, you have the opportunity to be the CEO of your own business. You get to choose who you work with, you can control how much, or how little, you work. You literally can control your own destiny!
Why Are Some Calling Team Beachbody A Scam?
People who say that Team Beachbody is a “scam” are either mis-informed, joking around or just plain ignorant. If by now someone does not know the difference between a legal business and an illegal scheme then I’m afraid it is the latter.
If you’re looking for a legitimate business opportunity in the health and fitness industry that has the backing of a $400 million company that spends $125 million+ in advertising, then check out the “Become A Coach” page and watch the 13 minute overview of the Team Beachbody business opportunity.
